The form of government of any state is directly determined by the essence of the state and the form of organizing the state power, its internal circumstances. Under a monarchical government, the head of the state is always the monarch. And the form of the monarchy is completely irrelevant whether it is absolute or constitutional (limited). Monarchy is characterized, first of all, by monocracy, i.e. belonging of state power to the single person - the monarch, and hereditary way of transferring power from one monarch to another. At the same time, it should be noted that the monarchical institutions have undergone a long political evolution and serious modernization resulting in later modifications. The main purpose of our study is to identify the main features of present-day monarchies which in large part distinguish them from historical prototypes.
