Lev Aleksandrovich Tikhomirov - the most prominent revolutionary-narodnik, was one of the ideologists of «Narodnaya Volya» and together with P. L. Lavrov published the «Bulletin of «Narodnaya Volya». In 1888 in exile, he radically changed his views. He received a pardon and in 1889 returned to Russia, where he became the main theoretician of monarchism. In the period from 1909 to 1913 he was the editor of the pro-government newspaper «Moskovskiye Vedomosti». In the article, the author analyzed the historical and philosophical concept of L. A. Tikhomirova on the essence of the monarchical principle of power. Historical and philosophical ideas L. A. Tikhomirova today has not lost its relevance and allow the most complete formalization of the place of the monarchical form of supreme power in the historical process, the classification of monarchical forms of power and the relationship of supreme power and religion. L.A. Tikhomirov refuted many stereotypical views on the essence of monarchical power and considered the point of view on the archaism and backwardness of the monarchy in the historical process unreasonable, highlighting three types of monarchy - absolutism, despotism and autocracy.
