In the democratic period, Mongolia adopted a new concept of foreign policy, which implies a multiple vector. According to this policy, the Russian Federation and the Republic of China have become priority partners of Mongolia due to historical circumstances and their geographical proximity. The article focuses on contemporary relations between Mongolia and its southern neighbor. In the late 1990s, China became the main external partner for Mongolia. In the new circumstances, there is a deeper cooperation in mining and manufacturing industries matters, bilateral cooperation in the future exploitation of resources and in infrastructure construction, as well as in the field of tourism. Because of the intensification of relations in the 2000s China has become the dominant trading partner for Mongolia with a high level of investments by private and public Chinese companies. The author shows the amplification of foreign policy dialogue between the two countries, intensification of economic cooperation, and changing the nature of this cooperation.
