The article examines the phenomenon of morality as a means of organizing individual behavior, a regulator of social relations and, at the same time, a source of legal norms. The author postulates that the understanding of moral principles in philosophy is broader than in religion, since the latter reveals ideas about proper behavior exclusively from the position of Divine providence and potential punishment for deviations from Christian dogma. In general, the author conducted a comparative analysis of the understanding of morality in Christian-religious and philosophical aspects. Consideration of morality through the prism of religious understanding has structure, certainty, simplicity and accessibility to perception, and therefore is more practical and effective for the category of believers. In turn, the philosophical interpretation of a moral norm is rational, but at the same time, it is not supported by the idea of a possible sanction, but is based on a person’s conscious implementation of a model of morally acceptable behavior.
