Morphometric parameters of stem as criteria for estimation of resistance of winter rye to lodging in the conditions of Middle Povolzh'e

The authors presented the results of long-term investigations of the resistance of different crops and varieties of winter rye to lodging in the conditions of Middle Povolzh'e. The correlation between a lodging extent and determinants of productivity was estimated. The morphological and physico-mechanical parameters of stem were determined which caused a resistance to lodging. As a result of lodging it was shown the decrease of stem breaking strength, the mass of second lower internode and the mass of corn from the main stem and the plant. At the same time it was noticed, that a lodging extent has more influence on variability of the determinants, than genotype of variety. With the purpose of an increase of resistance to lodging of tow rye forms regardless of genetic control of plants height the authors order to apply the repeated selection on stem breaking strength. The expediency of use of morphometric determinants as criteria for estimation of resistance to lodging was discussed.
