The article discusses the concept of “urban text” in relation to the screen continuum, defines its genesis and analytical paradigm, and examines the image of a megalopolis in modern screen journalism using the example of Moscow. The transformation of the image of Moscow and its variability on the screen is studied on the basis of Russian-language works shot in various film, television and web documentary genres: documentaries, TV programs, TV movies, film sketches, Internet videos and reports. It is alleged that the image of Moscow is manifested in two ways: as a material and objective world, as well as an idea about a city arising in the minds and imagina-tive thinking of people. At the same time, the image of the city is not only considered as an inde-pendent symbolic field; the research also attempts to extend the image of the metropolis, as well as complement the idea of the poetics of urbanism on the documentary screen. It is concluded that the image of modern Moscow expands its semantic field and appears as a cultural capital, a femme fatale, a child, a mystical city, an airport city, a time machine, a city of opportunities, and a “hospitable house”.
