The motif of movement in "Novels about San Francisco" by P. Balakshin "Spring under Fillmore" and "Letters from Rockport"

The article deals with the motif of movement as a key one in the poetics of the prose of Petr Balakshin, the specificity of space and time organisation of "Fillmore" stories is regarded and the role of poetics of smells and colour in the structure of the artistic whole is considered. Special attention is paid to allusions and reminiscences from Western European and American literatures; the images with symbolic meanings are analysed and the key characteristics of P.Balakshin's style are revealed.
