This paper attempts to analyze the motive of disguise in the Boris Akunin’s novel "Azazel". Based on the specifics of the detective genre as to certain aspects of the game, the importance of costume details in the work, the author refers to dressing in terms of its ideological and aesthetic and compositional role in the novel "Azazel." The article provides the most vivid examples that demonstrate the specificity of the motif in the work of changing Boris Akunin.
