The article is devoted to the problem of distinguishing between classical and personalistic theism, which recently has been raised in Western philosophy of religion, which was initiated by the superconservative Catholic philosopher Brian Davis and which was actively taken up by ultra-liberal theologians. The article shows that in the first case the fact that Christianity is the religion of Revelation is ignored, and in the second - there is a strategy of dismantling the theistic worldview as such under the pretext of adapting it to the modern picture of the world. Proving what has been self-evident for centuries, the author of the article takes a historical excursion into the formation of the very concept of “theism” (starting from the end of the 17th century), demonstrating that “theism” was understood as a personalistic religious worldview by almost all of its supporters and all opponents, without exception. It also clarifies that the personality of the theistic God is not tantamount to anthropomorphism, since it may well be understood on the basis of an analogous theory of the language of religion.
