The article considers multimedia as an opportunity for building up an open learning environment for teaching foreign languages with the use of interactive technologies. The content component of education is presented by means of web-sites, multimedia educational programs, podcasts and other Internet-resources, which guarantee the openness of the environment. In this case multimedia as an educational technology is the basis for teaching foreign languages.
