Multisensory information processing in primary sensory cortical areas of brain sensory systems

The aim was to identify and analyze dynamical changes of infraslow fluctuations of brain potentials in primary visual, auditory, and gustatory cortices in rats during application of sensory stimuli of various types and modalities in chronic experiments. Participation of seconds (0.1-0.5 Hz) and multisecond waves in multisensory neural processing of visual, acoustic and taste information in the primary visual, auditory, and gustatory cortices is established. Seconds waves reflect neural receptive field dynamic reset, whereas multisecond waves are associated with the level of poly-modal sensory attention.
