In the article, the author examines the fundamental monograph of Doctor of Historical Sciences A. L. Beglov “Orthodox parish at the decline of the Russian Empire: state, discussions, reforms”, which was released at the end of 2021. In the monograph, according to the author of the article, a panoramic picture of the history of the Russian Orthodox parish is given - from the era of the Great Reforms of Alexander II to the revolutionary upheavals of 1917-1918. S. L. Firsov considers the conceptual approaches of A. L. Beglov to the topic he studies, analyzing the key points associated with attempts to reform the parish. The article shows that the main conclusions of the monograph are fully documented, that attempts to politicize the parish issue, the lack of public consensus and unanimous will eventually naturally led to the fact that this issue was not successfully resolved. On the other hand, the author shares the opinion of A. L. Beglov that the legalization of the “parish revolution” and its consequences really took place by the spring of 1918.
