The article reviews basic complexes of historical sources, reflecting national policy in the Northwest Caucasus in the second half of 19 th - early 20 th centuries. The undertaken research deals with main interpretations in the national history, basing upon the published and archival documents. The author discusses features of the pre-revolutionary historiography concerning the issues under consideration.
