The article presents the results of the floristic study in the Kubena River basin (within the limits of Verkhovazhsky, Vozhegodsky, Sokolsky, Syamzhensky, Ust-Kubinsky, and Kharovsky districts of the Vologda Region) within the maintained of the regional Red Data Book. Field surveys of 2001-2022 allowed to identify 528 new localities of 74 protected and 69 rare species of vascular plants. Populations of 6 plant species listed in the Red Data Book of Russian Federation (Calypso bulbosa, Cypripedium calceolus, Cypripedium guttatum, Dactylorhiza baltica, D. traunsteineri, Epipogium aphyllum) were found. The largest number of detected protected species (57) belong to the low conservation categories (3/NT, 3/LC, 4/DD). Species characterized by 1/CR, 1/EN, 2/EN, 2/VU categories were expectedly less common (17 species from 26 localities). More than 40% of the protected species require the implementation of immediate measures for their conservation (11 species) or special conservation measures (21). Only a third of rare and protected species found in the Kubena River basin was recorded within the boundaries of existing specially protected natural areas.
