Directions and experience of development of rural tourism

The article deals with the formation and development of rural tourism in European countries, the USA and Russia. Was revealed positive role of agro-tourism as an alternative kind of activity associated with the use of natural resources in rural areas, as well as an additional source of income and employment. The authors identified the main directions and prospects of development of agro-tourism and characteristics of its main species, spread in European countries and Russia. The article deals with the classical forms of recreation visitors in the countryside, as well as the creation and development of children’s cognitive tourism programs during school holidays. It was identified particular environmental conditions necessary for rural development of “green” agro-tourism. The authors give a description of trends in the development of rural tourism in regions of the Russian Federation. This article will be useful for both entrepreneurs and employees of public institutions in rural areas.
