Stress state of rocks in the vicinity of radial branching fissures

It has been proved that in the vicinity of initial radial fissures tips the magnitudes of tensile stresses and their directions are such that fissure branching in the process of their following growth is possible. Closing of branches in the result of the walls fracturing between them can result in rocks crushing.
