Popular sovereignty: mythical origins

The article highlights the idea of popular sovereignty, development of this concept in different historical and sociocultural contexts. Popular sovereignty is the product of the so-called political mythology. The problem is real popular sovereignty is not universal and depends on space and time, that is, from a certain organization of society formed the most active part of the population that deals with personal rights and freedoms. It is also stated that non-legal in its nature the idea can be implemented effectively only through the implementation of effective political and legal control over the activities of power structures.
