Folk theater and cooperation of the European North (on materials of the 1910-s)

This article focuses on participation of northern cooperation in the development of theatrical business in the European North. The author has considered the activities of the cultural and educational commission of the Vologda society of agriculture to organize performances by cooperatives and cultural and educational clubs and to provide them with theatrical requisite. Activities of the Arkhangelsk union of cooperatives and the Petrozavodsk union of cooperative associations to assist cultural and educational clubs through performances staging are also described. Information on the repertoire of folk theaters in the 1910-s, on the most popular classical plays and statements of propaganda character are provided on the basis of archival sources. The issue of theater use for cooperative education and for general cultural level increase of cooperative associations’ members is also considered.
