The peoples of Southern Siberia have played an important role in the ethno-cultural and political history of Northern Eurasia n the Middle Ages and early Modern times. It is in this region occurred on the territory of ancient Siberian State - Kyrgyz Khanate, which with 840, became the leader in the Northern Eurasia. Peoples of the region had a strong resistance to Mongol conquest in the XIII century. They have created a highly developed culture, including in the pre-Mongolian time with a significant role of agriculture. However, to date, many aspects of their history, archaeology and ethnography have not been studied or are controversial among researchers. In this article the analysis of such problems, outlined the main directions and tasks of their decision, which will determine the contribution of the peoples who inhabited the region in the history of world civilization, to clarify many of the currently existing concepts in science, primarily based on the thesis of cultural and civilizational backwardness of the population this territory.
