There are considered the peculiarities of instructing new staff members in the Department of Analytical and Synthetic Processing of FSBSI CSAL documents related to the specific character of scientific processing of professional literature requiring the subject knowledge and library and information technologies. The role of mentoring in training, retaining the personnel and continuity of production and professional traditions is considered. The role of professional and personal behavior of mentor is emphasized. The planning and phasing in the training process are substantiated.
