Navigating between tradition and modernity: Vietnamese cultural influence on the democratization process
Бесплатный доступ
This article examines the intricate relationship between traditional cultural norms and the democratization process in Vietnam, which is the country with a rich cultural heritage and uninterrupted Communist Party rule since 1975. Vietnamese culture, deeply rooted in Confucianism, Buddhism, and indigenous traditions, continues to shape collective consciousness and societal behavior. This study delves into the paradox of how these cultural elements can both support and obstruct democratic reforms. The findings suggest that while traditional values foster community engagement and accountability, they also reinforce hierarchical structures, which can impede full-fledged democratic development. This duality presents a unique challenge for Vietnam, where integrating traditional culture with democratic ideals requires a nuanced approach to political evolution and cultural adaptation.
