Forensic computer examination in investigating crimes committed with the help of the Internet: problems of theory and practice

The specific nature of the investigative picture of crimes committed with the help of the Internet makes it necessary to turn to experts in information technologies. At the same time, the most common type of procedural form of using special knowledge is the computer forensic examination. The article considers the sequence of actions of the investigator over the forensic examination and the sequence of actions of the expert over the computer examination. The content of every of the selected stages is revealed. The ratio of computer and computer-technical expertise is presented. After studying the normative legal acts regulating relations in the field under study, and the main opinions of scientists, the authors of the article present the differences and conclude that each of these examinations is independent. The article presents a list of typical diagnostic and identification issues that are resolved during the computer examination. The problems of the computer expertise in the investigation of crimes committed with the help of the Internet are identified.
