Resume: Evolutionary psychology postulates that self-awareness, like other higher cognitive abilities, would be unique to humans and thus distinguish us from animal species, even from the most developed. These theories are currently being challenged by neurobiological advances, emphasizing the involvement of certain brain structures in the process of self-awareness, which is reported by some primates.
