The important role of neuroimmune mechanisms in the development of neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and depression gained increasing attention. This review was focused on the data, giving evidence of changing activity of inflammatory factors, including pro-inflammatory cytokines and different types of toll-like receptors, both in patients and animal models of these disorders. Cytokines and toll-like receptors, involved in the process of inflammation, might serve as informative biomarkers of various pathologies and/or as potential targets for new therapeutic strategies.
