The contemporary comprehension of the formation of historical science in the Soviet period is following several directions. Some researchers examine Soviet historiography phenomenon exclusively in the context of "science and authority", others - as interrelation and cooperation of the pre-Marxist and Marxist schools of the country's historiography. Some historiographers assume that the discussion deals with "social, historiographical project", which characteristic features are class approach as an assigned value and a focus on fighting against bourgeois historiography. There also is so-called "compromise" position. Its supporters assert that Soviet historiography was formed as the combination "of the factors of external and internal influence" and therefore it was characterized by the active participation of historians in the political life of the country and continuous struggle against positivism. But taking into account the variety of these assessments it is hardly possible to deny that Soviet historiography was formed and developed as a complex and unique historical phenomenon, diverse and multidimensional, which can't be given any single-valued estimation. Therefore in the present conditions of the socialization of the science the study of Soviet historiography phenomenon is impossible without special comparative researches of different national historiographies in the realities of the turn of the XX - XXI centuries.
