Some aspects of co-existence of cellular and fixed-line communication

The type of attached subscriber terminal telephone networks are divided into fixed-line networks and mobile networks. The term “fixed link” is used today to describe communication systems operating with a permanent position of network subscribers in space (as a generalized description of the structure of the network in which the subscribers associated with stations wired communication lines of various types - both wired electrical, and optical communication lines). Mobile (cell, cellular) communication is a wireless communication between subscribers, the location of one or more of them is changing. Wireless as a carrier signal uses electromagnetic waves, freely propagating in space. One of the types of mobile communication is the cellular communication. Since the late 1990s and throughout the 2000s the fixed link had been subjected to strong criticism. This time coincided with the time of development, the establishment and maintenance of cellular communication. If you believe the media, two landmark events happened during this period: the Apocalypse of the fixed connection and the offensive bright era of ubiquitous domination of the cellular, which was presented as the most progressive and modern form of communication. However, over the last 3-4 years people have began to talk more about “the imminent death of the fixed connection”, and co-existence of mobile and fixed networks. The results of the analysis of the joint existence of two different types of communication in Russia and other regions of the world on the indicators in the field of telecommunications and info-communication technologies are given. The most significant features of this existence are singled out, conclusions are drawn about the specifics and prospects for the development of cellular and fixed communication.
