In the summer of 2024, French President E. Macron decided to dissolve the National Assembly of France and hold early parliamentary elections. The article analyzes the reasons that prompted the president to make such a controversial and difficult decision. First of all, it is explained by the unsuccessful results of the European elections for the presidential movement, which were won by the National Rally in France. The author shows that, having decided to hold early elections, Macron expected that, unlike the elections to the European Parliament, Marine Le Pen and her party would not be able to secure broad support from the population at the national level, which, together with the split in the left political spectrum, should have led to an improvement in the position of the presidential movement in parliament and the stabilization of the political system. The article analyzes in detail the changes that have taken place in the National Rally party, from the change of name to a large-scale policy to improve the image of the party, which ultimately led to a noticeable expansion of the electorate. The result was that the National Rally, despite the overall third place among party coalitions, significantly increased its presence in parliament and officially became the most popular party in the country. The hopes of the president and his team to split the left coalition also turned out to be unfounded. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that instead of stabilizing the situation, the early elections only led to a further deepening of the political crisis in the country, and Marine Le Pen's chances of winning the upcoming presidential elections have become more tangible than ever.
