Psychological personality features (Big Five) and psychosocial peculiarities of suicide attempters with alcoholic addiction (F10.2) were compared with those of suicide attempters without addiction. It was found that these peculiarities are gender and age dependent. Main differences in young addictive males lay within such domains as Openness and Contentiousness; they also have lower anxiety but higher impulsivity. Older age addictive males have marked lowering in Openness but higher angry hostility than non-addictive suicide attempters. Young addictive females have especially low scores in the domain of Openness and with older age show more marked lowering of traits in the domain of Contentiousness. These features may be predisposing to addiction or the result of evolution of traits due to alcohol abuse. The data obtained may be helpful during psychological correction and suicide prevention in rehabilitation centers for addicts.
