Cattle breeding traditions of the Alar Buryats

Бесплатный доступ

The settlement area of the Alar Buryats is located on the most fertile lands of ethnic Buryatia - in a remote part of the left bank of the Angara river in the Irkutsk region. Natural, climatic and landscape conditions largely determined the multifaceted nature of their economic and cultural activities. This ethnoterritorial group is one of the few groups among the nomadic Mongolian peoples, which led a settled way of life using only some nomadic elements in their household. The article is devoted to the analysis of the specific features of one of their leading industries - cattle breeding. The author reveals autochthonous components of Turkic origin in their economic activities and cultural life, traces evolutionary and transformational processes in historical dynamics and presents socio-economic consequences of these transformations.
