Some issues concerning the use of topographic maps in the activities of internal affairs bodies

The article reveals the underlying factors determining the value of topographic maps for accomplishment of combat, service and economic tasks. The detailed description of such concepts as “military topography”, “topographic training” and “tactical features” are given. The author differentiates semantic relations be- tween terms “relief” - “terrain” - “local objects”. It is emphasized that quite often a type of the terrain, meaning the skill of a commander or an officer to evaluate it correctly, conditions the successful accomplishment of the combat mission.
