The issues of security provision for participants in criminal proceedings are urgent and attract scientists’ attention, as the institution of state protection is an integral part of law enforcement activities. The article describes the issues of security provision for participants in criminal proceedings; special attention is paid to the conditions for the application of security measures. For example, the existence of a real threat is a mandatory condition to use safety measures. The threat is a means of psychological pressure aimed at intimidation of witnesses, victims and other participants in criminal proceedings. The article also provides scientists’ different points of view on the use of security measures. The author expresses her own opinion about the use of such security measures, as an alias. It is pointed out that security measures must be applied not only when the threat has already taken place, but also in cases where there is a serious possibility of execution of criminal influence on the trial participants and their relatives.
