The necessity for using competency-based approach to teaching communication in foreign languages (non-linguistic university)

Specific features of competency-based approach to education which means creating a new educational model of a specialist are presented in this paper. The main principles and advantages of the approach are described; the necessity of applying the given approach in teaching foreign languages is shown. Characteristics and structure of foreign language communicative competence as a goal in teaching foreign languages are given; the types of competencies of nonlinguistic university students are named.
