In the 70s of the 19th century during the Great Reforms, an attempt was made to reform church courts in the Russian Church. For this purpose, a special Committee was created, one of the active participants of which was T. V. Barsov, professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Aware of the need for transformation in the field of church courts, Barsov published several articles. Today, a keen interest in his creative heritage was shown by D. V. Voluzhkov, a researcher in the field of church law. In one of the issues of the “Khristianskoye Chteniye”, he published an article with detailed analysis of the canonical- legal views of T. V. Barsov. The view on the intellectual heritage of T. V. Barsov, presented by a modern researcher, not only allowed D. V. Voluzhkov to reconstruct some of his ideas, but also brought readers to a number of problems of court organization in pre-revolutionary Russia. This article is a review of the work of D. V. Voluzhkov.
