Non-suicidal self-injury and its relation to suicidal behavior in youth patients with personality disorders

Objectives: establishing psychopathology of NSSIs in young adult patients with PD and different comorbid disorders, finding any relation to suicidal behavior in order to improve diagnostic evaluation and establish more accurate prognosis. Material and methods: 187 patients (133 male and 54 female) aged 18.5±2.3 at the moment of the first hospital admission were assessed clinically and retrospectively in terms of psychopathological disorders. Results: We established the most common features of psychical functioning in the cohort we studied: instability of affects and selfesteem (n=187; 100%); alexithymia (n=130; 69.5%); reduction of spectrum of life interests towards overvalued or addictive activities. Our observation supports the idea of psychopathological basis for any NSSI in young patients with PD.
