The Neva battle: its place and significance

On the basis of two main historical documents: «The Tale of the Battle of the Neva» from «Hagiography of the Grand Duke Alexander» and «The First Novgorod Chronicle senior», having the status of primary sources, the author reconstructs the topography and the tide of the battle. He considers it as a source of a centuries-old «serf confrontation» between Russia and Sweden, up to the role of the Kronstadt fortress already in the 20th century. Making the reconstruction of the course of the battle, the author concludes that its value has been really fateful, and probably has determined the future course of the whole Russian history.
