November 25, 2020 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of the genius N.I. Pirogov. The article is devoted to the invaluable contribution of the outstanding surgeon-teacher Professor N.I. Pirogov to the formation of the national school of surgical education. Changes in clinical education initiated by N.I. Pirogov while working at the St. Petersburg surgical Academy are described. The main milestones of the formation of the hospital surgical school of Russian medical education are presented.
