N.I. Pirogov-the forerunner of modern anesthesiology as a science

The analysis of the historical archive of publications devoted to experimental and clinical works of N.I. Pirogov in the field of General anesthesia methods, its safety and technical support is performed. Historical Parallels are drawn between Pirogov’s works and the current state of development of Russian and world anesthesiology and resuscitation. The contribution of the great doctor and scientist to the formation of key approaches to anesthesia and intensive care is determined.
