Nikolai Fechin (1881-1955) was a prominent Russian painter from Kazan who emigrated to the USA in 1923 with the assistance of the American Relief Administration (ARA), which provided humanitarian aid to Russia during the famine of 1921-1923. The article covers some aspects of Fechin’s interactions with the employees of the ARA and some circumstances of his moving abroad.
