The review of the monograph written by V.Chernyavskaya and titled Communication in Science: the Normative and the Deviate. Linguistic, Social and Cultural Analysis (Moscow, LIBROKOM Press, 2011, 240 p.) reveals the importance and urgency of the research of the interaction of standard and deviation in the sphere of scientific communication. The emphasis is made on the ingenious theory, based on the combination of the linguistic and discourse analyses of cognitive activity and a scientific text as its result. The reviewer identifies the concepts of the standard text, pattern text and elite text.
