The article deals with the principles of the human and civil rights and freedoms protection, which should be ensured by the state exclusively. Despite the fairly wide coverage of the principle of human and civil rights and freedoms protection in the scholar literature, the realities of the modern Russian state require the improvement of the theoretical propositions of this principle in the criminal proceedings for its subsequent implementation in the life of every human being. The author considers the nature, features and the main directions of the human and civil rights and freedoms protection in the criminal proceedings.
