The current regulatory acts of the Russian Federation regulating the allowable cutting area do not fully comply with the principles of sustainable forest management and need a scientific justification. In the article, it was suggested to consider the estimated felling area as the norm of the maximum permissible withdrawal of environmental components and as one of the tools for planning and regulating property relations.
