The article proves that the dynamics of modern Russian stress norms is determined by the following factors: 1) quantitative characteristics of vowels in stressed and contiguous syllables; 2) a tendency to rhythmic balance; 3) grammaticalization of stress; 4) analogical accent unification; 5) pragmatization of accent variation. Special attention is given to the study of the online discussion materials. This analysis has revealed how stress norms are understood by ordinary metalinguistic consciousness and provided the information about the most comfortable (for a language community) ways in mastering the correct accentual realizations.
