Novelties in field pea breeding at the FSBSI “Omsk ASC”

In Russia, the majority of cultivated areas among leguminous crops is allocated for pea cultivation, amounting to 61.3% or 1,089,600 ha. Western Siberia is one of the main grain-producing regions in the Russian Federation. In 2017 peas were cultivated over an area of 99,800 ha in the Omsk Region, while in 2018 this parameter decreased until 84,000 ha; the average yielding capacity in the case of industrial plantations amounted respectively to 1.52 and 1.39 t/ha. At all development stages of the agricultural production, the varieties should meet the time and purpose requirements to the fullest degree. The creation of a variety is aimed at a rational use of natural resources to address ecological and economic issues in increasing the production of valuable foodstuff and high-protein fodder.
