Modern society is characterized by development of two organically interrelated processes – social and demographic. One of them is characterized by the level of education, employment and labour motivation, the scale of human capital ensuring both economic development of the society and the conditions for its qualitative renewal. The second process reflects multi-faceted areas of the population reproduction, including the components of fertility, mortality, nuptiality, migration. Interconnection of these processes results in the formation of a specific characteristic of social development that is determined by population health. At the conference were considered the main problems in the state of the Russian population health, examined the causes of “ill-health”, formulated the basic proposals for changing the present situation, and set forth the directions of further population studies.
