The analysis of the results of calculating the absorptive capacity of forests according to the basic methodology used in the preparation of national reporting in accordance with international agreements and obligations of the Russian Federation is performed. The key factors influencing the total estimated estimation of СО2 absorption by forests are revealed. It is suggested to rethink the basic methodology and to revise the accounting units of the cadastre for objective and maximum accounting for the absorption and accumulation of carbon by the forests of Russia.
