New data on the birds of Pevek township, Western Chukotka

Birds of the township of Pevek (69.70°N, 170.29°E), western Chukotka, are less known (Tomkovič 2007). I briefly observed birds in this township on 2-6 June 2018, and on 5-13 July 2018. Overall, I recorded 13 species, of which 11 were previously known from Pevek. However, my record of an adult male of Velvet Scoter Melanitta deglandi is probably the first for Pevek. Also, my records of Steller’s Eider Polysticta stelleri are probably the first for Pevek, although the species was previously once observed on the nearby island of Rautan (Portenko 1972).
