New finds of coins from the black sea roman provinces in the Southwestern Crimea in the first centuries AD

Бесплатный доступ

This paper is the first publication of coins minted in the Roman provinces in the first centuries AD which were found over the years (after 1970) during excavations in Tauric Chersonese as well as recent finds of coins in the environs of this city. The new finds can be divided into two groups: coins of the Balkan centers in the western Black Sea region (Serdica, Tomis, Odessos, Dionysopolis, Anchialos) and coins of the sea ports along the southern coast of the Black Sea in Asia Minor (Amastris, Amisos). New finds are an important evidence of trade and economic relations between southwestern Taurica and the above-mentioned cities and also a rather vivid illustration of migration processes in the Black Sea region in the 2nd-3rd centuries AD.
