We studied the clinical efficacy of the combined modality treatment of uterine body cancer using intraoperative radiation therapy(IORT) at a single dose of 10 Gy delivered by the beam of fast electrons with a mean energy of 6 MeV and the conventional external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). The total isoeffective dose for irradiating patients with stage Ib-IIa uterine body cancer was calculated using the modified mathematical model of TDF. Increased exudation of vaginal discharge and delayed regeneration of vaginal scar were observed in postoperative period in patients treated with IORT + EBRT. It was first shown that the combined modality treatment with IORT and EBRT for patients with stage Ib–IIa uterine body cancer significantly increases the 2-yearsurvival as compared to the standard treatment modalities.
