The purpose of the research is to create new, competitive, plastic varieties of soft winter wheat, adapted to cultivation by all fertilized predecessors using intensive and mediumintensive technologies. The main method for creating wheat varieties in the North Caucasus Federal Scientifi Agrarian Center is intraspecifi complex, stepwise hybridization and continuous targeted selection of a model of universal type varieties for various soilclimatic, agroecological conditions in the south and southeast of Russia. When creating a new source material, genotypes are used as parental forms, the genomes of which contain pronounced markers of the main economic and biological characteristics and properties. The experiments were carried out by a systematic method in 4fold repetition. The midseason winter wheat variety Grom was used as a standard. All assessments, phenological observations, yield accounting and others were carried out in accordance with the guidelines set out in the “Methodology for State Variety Testing of Agricultural Crops” (2019), “Methodology for assessing the technological qualities of grain”(1971), “Guidelines for assessing grain quality” (1977). The assessment of frost resistance was carried out according to the Kharkov method (1950), the statistical processing of the research results was implemented according to the “Methodology of fi experiment” (1985). A new variety of soft winter wheat, Stavropolskaya 7, has been created. On average, over three years of study (2018-2020) in a competitive test, the new genotype formed a grain yield of 9.99 t/ha. The excess over the standard was signifi and high and amounted to 1.73 t/ha. It is a short, lodgingresistant variety which differs in a high number of productive stems. As to the quality of grain and bread it is strong wheat. It possesses fi resistance to major wheat diseases and is characterized by high drought resistance and frost resistance.
