«Need everything …»: position of deportees of World War I in Eastern Siberia

The article touches on the issues of displacement, resettlement and arrangement of the deportees of World War I in Eastern Siberia (1914–1918). An attention is paid to the measures taken by the government and public organizations to improve the situation of this particular category of the victims of the war. The term «deportee»is clarified in the article. The authors draw the conclusion about the complex of the challenges and obstacles, the deported persons had to face, for most of them survival became a vital strategy. The archival materials, periodicals of the time before the revolution were involved in the analysis
